IHBC Urban Design CPD in Oxford: 14/05

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly welcomed the launch of the joint 2010 ‘Planning and the Historic Environment’ (‘PATHE’) CPD event on Urban Design, run through the Oxford University Department for Continuing Education (OUDCE), and to take place there on Friday 14 May 2010.

The PATHE initiatives is run by OUDCE in partnership with the IHBC and the IfA, and sponsored by English Heritage.

Seán O’Reilly said: “Conservation in the 21st century requires the integration of numerous different disciplines, from historical research to archaeological and architectural interventions.  These must all work together effectively if the conservation outcome is to be successful, as balancing resources and opportunities for today and tomorrow is the route to sustainable development.

Urban Design provides a parallel inter-disciplinary place-management process to that of conservation, and is a crucial part of the conservation process.  So it is especially relevant today, when there is so much emphasis on sustainability, community and resources, that our sector leads the debate on the links between conservation and urban design.”
