Seán O’Reilly said: “Conservation in the 21st century requires the integration of numerous different disciplines, from historical research to archaeological and architectural interventions. These must all work together effectively if the conservation outcome is to be successful, as balancing resources and opportunities for today and tomorrow is the route to sustainable development.
Urban Design provides a parallel inter-disciplinary place-management process to that of conservation, and is a crucial part of the conservation process. So it is especially relevant today, when there is so much emphasis on sustainability, community and resources, that our sector leads the debate on the links between conservation and urban design.”
