Welcoming the initiative, Baile Hanzala Malik, Glasgow City Council’s Executive Member for International Affairs and Chairman of GCHT said: “Sourcing sustainable funding for regeneration projects is a vitally important topic, and we welcome this opportunity to bring together key international experts to explore case studies and solutions from across the world. We also looking forward to showcasing examples of award-winning heritage regeneration projects here in Glasgow to an international audience.”
James Moir, Director UK APT, said: “Building Preservation Trusts have always had to be canny at sourcing funding. In the present climate, the need for inventiveness and lateral thinking to secure backing for projects has never been greater. This conference will showcase achievements and best practice that will provide essential signposting and inspiration to all our members.
As the occasion also celebrates the coming of age of the Association of Preservation Trusts, it is fitting that the Conference should have an international dimension. The scope and content will be that much richer by engaging with our two partners, Glasgow City Heritage Trust and IHBC. Teaming up in this way means the programme can deliver more in terms of an enriched local experience, extended networking opportunities and global perspectives on funding issues.”
IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: “To make sure that global interests in heritage can benefit as widely as possible from our work, we are doing all we can to maintain keep delegate charges to a minimum while still ensuring the kind of service standards our members and partners deserve and expect. We’re delighted to be one of the partners in this crucial sector initiative, and welcome both support from key bodies such as Historic Scotland and Glasgow City Council, which will host a reception for all delegates in the city’s magnificent City Chambers, as well as the encouragement of key sector bodies such as ICOMOS UK.”
