IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the (Christian) doorstep’: New funding to rescue deteriorating historic churches
Historic churches and chapels in England, Wales, Scotland will benefit from £680,000 of rescue funding from the National Churches Trust, the UK’s church buildings support charity, as reported by Premier Christian Media Trust.

IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Forces join to help revamp of Shewsbury Flaxmill
The Shropshire Star has reported on how two bodies behind the renovation and regeneration of one of Shrewsbury’s most iconic landmarks – Historic England and the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings – have formally recognised their desire to bring the building back to life.

Prime Minister launches 25 Year Environment Plan: Leaving places better
Prime Minister Theresa May has launched a 25 Year Environment Plan – A Green Future: Our 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment – setting out the government’s intention to leave our environment in a better state than found, and though focussed on plastics, explicitly listed as one of the plan’s 10 main goals are ‘Enhanced beauty, heritage and engagement with the natural environment’.

Scottish council considers knocking down all high-rise flats
Scotland’s biggest social landlord North Lanarkshire Council could demolish all its tower blocks within 20 years which, if approved, could transform the skylines of towns including Motherwell, Coatbridge, Airdrie and Wishaw.

IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Restoration plans for Morpeth pele tower submitted
The Morpeth Herald has reported on how an ambitious project to breathe new life into one of Northumberland’s most historic buildings has reached an important stage: lodging of a planning application by Cresswell Parish Council to carry out works to help re-open the ruined 15th century pele tower in the village.

Bristol University GII Fry fire accidental
A fire that broke out in the roof of Bristol University’s Grade II listed Fry Building on Saturday, started accidentally, investigators have found, the BBC has reported.

Wales: Owners etc. consultation on historic parks and gardens boundaries
Wales has had a non-statutory register of historic parks and gardens since 1994 and it will form the basis for the new statutory register established by the 2016 Act, while in advance Cadw will consult with owners and occupiers on boundaries before bringing the statutory register into force during 2018.

Hackitt report into ‘Building Regulations and Fire Safety’ post-Grenfell: Interim update – Calls for ‘universal shift in culture’
Dame Judith Hackitt, chair of an independent review into building regulations and fire safety, has found that a ‘universal shift in culture’ is required to rebuild trust amongst residents of high-rise buildings and significantly improve the way that fire safety is assured.

IHBC’s ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Church slams Belfast’s £400m regen scheme due to ‘lack of attention to… preserving or enhancing character’
The Church of Ireland has come out against a £400m Belfast redevelopment scheme – a flagship project focused on a 12-acre site in the city centre, formerly known as Royal Exchange – with the Bishop of Connor objecting to the plans due to ‘the lack of attention… paid to preserving or enhancing the character of the area…’.

Cadw research update on preservation of listed buildings in disrepair
Cadw has published research on how the Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2016 can allow Welsh Ministers make regulations to give local authorities new powers to issue ‘preservation notices’, with the report outlining several options.
