Three major surveys of relevant professional activities in England are being undertaken at present, each of which provides IHBC members and practitioners with important opportunities to raise the profile of conservation in sustainable development, development economics and local authorities.
The first two surveys do not register conservation to a degree that reflects its importance to their respective themes. To help improve them for the future, and as your Christmas present to the IHBC, please take a few moments to fill them out and input conservation perspectives where you see fit.
1) Arup, for HCA are developing market intelligence focussed on individuals and organisations working across the spectrum of professions involved in creating and maintaining sustainable communities.

2) Roger Tym & Partners has been appointed by an umbrella group of national planning and property organisations to examine the training of planners and local councillors in the economics of development.

3) The IHBC is being supported by English Heritage to continue its evaluation of conservation resources in planning authorities across England. Our Projects Officer, Fiona Newton, will be personally contacting every local authority in England to gain the most exact market intelligence in the sector. This intelligence will help the IHBC map changes in the sector, and push for the resources essential to maintain and improve conservation standards as part of an inherently sustainable management strategy for out built heritage.
We are extremely grateful to the busy conservation officers and other local authority staff who take the time to answer Fiona’s questions. So a particular Happy Christmas to you!
