COTAC’s 2013 Annual Conference, ‘Embracing a Digital Future for Traditional Buildings’, of which the IHBC is a co-sponsor and offers reduced rates for members, has provided a new update on content as IHBC Full Member and Assistant Director, Properties in Care at Cadw, John W Edwards, will speak about their Heritage Cottage, a terraced house being used to test new technologies.
COTAC writes:
Cadw last year purchased a small terraced house, Heritage Cottage, with the aim of testing new technologies and exploring what they can be used for. Cadw have laser scanned the property and have created a full 3D digital model.
Now they are looking at incorporating a range of additional data of particular relevance for historic buildings, including:
- testing and analysis of materials,
- thermal performance monitoring,
- building history,
- the significance of building elements,
- how to generate the information in a BIM-type format, and
- how this data can be used to manage historic buildings, particularly in relation to energy efficiency.
