Sue Owen, currently Director General of Strategy at the Department for Work and Pensions, has been announced as the new Permanent Secretary for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
She replaces Sir Jonathan Stephens, who stepped down from the post after seven years at DCMS. Owen has held a range of positions in government, moving to DWP from the Department for International Development. Before DFID she worked in the Policy Unit at Number 10 and at the British Embassy in Washington.
The Secretary of State, Rt Hon Maria Miller MP, said ‘Sue Owen’s appointment as our new Permanent Secretary is great news. She has a distinguished record of achievement across a wide range of areas and she is ideally suited to lead the team here, making the most of the great opportunity we have to play a big part in the government’s plans for economic growth and a fairer, more decent society.’
