Council planning spend drops 14 per cent

Figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government on local authority spending in England show that net current expenditure on planning and development fell from £1,652bn to £1,434bn between 2011/12 and 2012/13. This represented a fall of 14.2 per cent.

Other big reductions were highways and transport with expenditure dropping from £5,380bn to £4,868bn, a fall of 9.5 per cent.
