Danny Alexander, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has confirmed that next year’s Coastal Communities Fund will be worth £29m, an increase of five per cent from last year.
The Coastal Communities Fund was launched in 2012 to invest in seaside towns and villages. The projects approved include a number of pier regeneration schemes.
Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles commented: ‘This government is committed to supporting our seaside towns and we know the Coastal Communities Fund is really making a difference so I’m delighted to announce we are increasing the funding for next year.’
In a related development, Pickles welcomed the first step towards the reopening of Hastings Pier after it was saved from disrepair and abandonment by a local community group.
