The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) are set to invest up to £4m in feasibility studies using environmental data to develop new solutions to business problems, with funding set aside up to £1m for projects specifically using data from space satellites.
TSB aims to support solutions and services that offer specific commercial benefits and/or limit business risks and increase resilience by integrating environmental data with that from other sources. It focuses on solving problems by finding innovative ways to combine data sources, either multiple environmental datasets or environmental and business data.
Projects must be business-led and collaborative, involving an end-user. The competition is open to companies of any size and consortia may include universities and other eligible research establishments. Projects are expected to start next February and to last no longer than 12 months, with total project costs of between £50,000 and £200,000.
The competition will be preceded by a series of workshops and there will be a briefing webinar on 8 October. The competition opens on 30 September.
