Natural England is working with Defra and other regulators to review environment guidance and all the environmental information required from businesses to make sure it is really needed and used, and to have your say, go to Defra’s interactive website and give their views on how guidance and information obligations can be made more straightforward before 5 July 2013.
Defra writes:
Businesses and the public are being asked to give their ideas on how environmental guidance and reporting requirements can be made more straightforward. Defra has launched an interactive website – Smarter Guidance and Data to capture your views.
Smarter Guidance and Data is an outcome of the Coalition Government’s Red Tape Challenge. It is working to remove unnecessary burdens for business by reforming environmental guidance and doing a root and branch review of all the information that businesses submit to Defra and its regulators. These reforms will make it easier and cheaper for businesses to comply with regulations and could save the UK economy more than £1billion over the next 10 years.
Guidance and information obligations are important for supporting regulation but they have become more costly and complex than they need to be. Defra is running an initial public feedback exercise on guidance and information obligations from now until 5 July 2013.
Further opportunities to comment on these reforms will run over the next 12 months. Draft pieces of guidance will be published for comment, as well as proposals to reform information obligations.
