IHBC welcomes web resources linking health & place

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly welcomed the new web resources for England documenting how properly designed places, old and new, can help the health of the nation. He observed: ‘It’s great to see confirmation that the health of the nation – physical and mental – is tied directly to how we interact with places.’

‘Given the LGA’s current assessment of how the recession will impact on our health – a problem the whole of the UK will face – proper place management of traditional and historic areas is one of the easiest ways to underpin people’s fitness. The National Heritage Agencies across the UK now need to show how traditional and historic places provide some of the best infrastructure for healthy lives and minds. Furthermore, health is just another of the many benefits we can reap from looking after our traditional buildings and places, and we need to get this fact on the agenda of government’.
