Green Deal fraudsters con householders

Home owners are being warned of doorstep tricksters demanding bogus ‘admin’ fees.

Action Fraud, the UK national fraud reporting centre, has warned that doorstep fraudsters are using the Green Deal to con unwitting householders.

It says Caerphilly Trading Standards has been made aware of fraudsters knocking on people’s doors claiming that homeowners are entitled to £10,000 of funding for home improvements and that the improvements will be ‘free’. The fraudsters then ask for an ‘administration fee’ to undertake various tasks on behalf of the householder.

The government’s Green Deal, which supports energy efficiency improvements, can only be delivered via approved green deal advisors and installers.
