The Department for Communities and Local Government is inviting bids from English seaside towns with economic development proposals which could benefit from the administration’s Coastal Communities Fund schemes, now in its second year.
The amount on offer is £27m, an increase of over £4m on the first year’s pot. The fund is raised from the Crown Estate’s marine assets and reinvested in coastal areas.
The money was used for a variety of projects including rejuvenating heritage areas and leisure facilities as well as helping businesses embrace digital technology and promote innovation. The projects attracted additional funding from public and private co-sponsors of over £16m.
