David Start, Director of the Heritage Trust of Lincolnshire since its inception in 1991, has left the organisation at the end of March 2013 to enjoy a new lease of life in retirement, while Liz Bates, a Full Member of the IHBC, has taken up the new post of Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Lincolnshire.
Heritage Lincolnshire writes:
[David’s] commitment to the organisation over the past 22 years has seen the Trust develop from just 2 staff members to over 35 specialists. During this time the Trust has achieved a great deal, delivering the County’s Heritage Open Day programme, conserving 8 historic buildings for a new use, undertaking fieldwork and research archaeology and involving thousands of people in the Trust’s events, activities and volunteer initiatives.
Dave Start said: ‘I have had a fantastic time working here in Lincolnshire. I had no idea when I came here back in 1988 what a rich heritage Lincolnshire has. It has been an enormous pleasure to work with and develop Heritage Lincolnshire, and I shall really miss the great group of archaeologists and historians that keep it running. But there’s still lots to do – and I’m sure that Liz Bates and the team will be kept very busy looking after and promoting our great county.’
As the Trust faces the end of one era, there is excitement about a new direction led by Liz Bates, the new Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Lincolnshire. Liz, a Full Member of the IHBC, is a specialist in historic buildings conservation and has worked for the Trust for over 10 years. She is therefore well placed to work with trustees, staff and volunteers to build upon David’s legacy.
Liz Bates said, ‘David has done a fantastic job leading the Trust through some difficult challenges, and I am looking forward to working with staff and trustees to develop new activities and renew our commitment to caring for the County’s heritage. We plan to focus on bringing benefits to people who live and work in the County and to encourage visitors to explore all it has to offer.’
