The Committee is calling for evidence, with a long deadline of September 18, on two key planks of the UK’s energy transition policy: the high cost of energy in the UK and its impact on both economic growth and efforts to decarbonise business and industry; and the troubled national rollout of home retrofit to implement the Government’s flagship Warm Homes Plan. In May last year the Committee called for a ‘one stop shop’ to guide consumers through the process of home retrofit, and provide greater assurance through trusted suppliers, after the solid wall insulation scandal exposed serious flaws in existing systems. Is the new Warm Homes Agency being set up and resourced properly to get the UK’s ambitions for a nation of warm, comfortable homes back on track?
Evidence in the Committee’s Cost of Energy and Energy Resilience inquiries has pointed to serious gaps in Government’s strategy for driving decarbonisation across UK business and industry and piecemeal, patchy support for energy costs that are deterring investment and acting as a drag on economic growth. How can Government properly incentivise and drive national decarbonisation targets that will be delivered by the UK private sector, as it strives to deliver growth? The Committee is welcoming evidence from all interested stakeholders in each area by September 18, via the inquiry pages: Business and energy and Warm and comfortable homes.
