IHBC@Surveyor Live 26: At a ‘community event created by surveyors, for surveyors’ IHBC’s staff, volunteers & consultants advise and more, winning endorsements too (Thanks Richard Oxley!)

On 14 May IHBC’s Sarah Homer (IHBC Services and Support Executive Officer) and Rebecca Whewell (IHBC Branch Consultant), and South West Branch Chair Charlotte Bowles-Lewis hosted our stand at ‘Surveyor Live 26’, organised by the Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA) to bringing together 350 residential surveyors and exhibitors in Swindon, the largest event of its type.

Sarah Homer said:  ‘It was a pleasure to represent the IHBC at the Surveyor Live 26 event, and a big ‘thank you’ to the RPSA for inviting the IHBC to participate. The event provided a valuable opportunity to introduce the Institute and the benefits of membership to a wider audience of residential property surveyors and to connect with colleagues from across the sector, including SPAB, CABE, and the Property Care Association.’

Alan Milburn, one of the lead organisers of the event said:  ‘As we become an ever more hands-off and digitised environment, the skills of the professional surveyor become more focussed on highlighting the skills and knowledge necessary to maintain our heritage properties.’

‘With an ageing housing stock the work of the IHBC is becoming ever-more important, so events like Surveyor Live 26 that can bring together the organisations and practitioners needed to maintain our built-environment are to be celebrated.’

‘Our thanks also to Richard Oxley BSc DipBldgConsMRICS IHBC, of Oxley Conservation, who kindly supplied a resounding endorsement of why membership of the IHBC is valuable to Chartered Surveyors, which we were pleased to share at the event.’

Richard wrote that IHBC membership ‘provides an additional level of authenticity of dedication’ and ‘commitment to building conservation…’.

‘If surveyors are interested in building conservation, the IHBC can provide an invaluable resource of knowledge and support their development’.

IHBC Director Sean O’ Reilly says  ‘Events like this are a great reminder of the value the IHBC offers as an institute, founded on the strength of our shared volunteer network of skilled and enthusiastic members.’

‘I can’t thank these networks enough either: staff, consultants, volunteers and more, for making this such a success.  It was a challenging and tiring day for all there, but it does give all IHBC members critical profile in our uniquely personal style.’

Sarah Homer continued: ‘The IHBC has been invited back next year so if you are interested do ‘save the date’, Thursday 15 April 2027 for Surveyor Live 27, to be held in the north of England, venue to be confirmed.   We’ll be there… will you?
