Hear more from the RTPI –  IHBC’s Newcastle School ‘Friends’ – as IHBC-member rates on offer to RTPI members for our Virtual Day School, 19/06

IHBC’s 2026 Day School, broadcasting from Newcastle on 19 June, boasts The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) as our School ‘Friend’, offering reduced Virtual School rates to RTPI members as delegates while delegates will hear from former RTPI President Timothy David Crawshaw as he responds to a busy day of IHBC CPD.

On the IHBC’s 2026 School ‘Friendship’ with the RTPI, John Sturzaker FRTPI, RTPI’s Director of Careers and Education, said: ‘The RTPI is very pleased to be collaborating with the IHBC on the 2026 annual school, and beyond.’

‘Adapting and reusing historic buildings is a theme of great relevance to members of both Institutes so it is great that RTPI members are benefiting from discounted attendance at the virtual school.’

‘We look forward to great discussions at the school, and ongoing collaborations between IHBC and RTPI.’

Earlier, Tim said: ‘I am delighted to be joining this important Day School and supporting the work of the IHBC and its membership.’

‘I am passionate about the creative and sensitive re-use of historic buildings as the sustainable and culturally enhancing choice, and IHBC members are ideally placed to promote and regulate this activity.’

‘The historic environment is a key psychological foothold in the experience of places and the re-use of assets retains these as key landmarks that support wayfinding, orientation and feelings of belonging.’

Seán O’Reilly said: ‘The IHBC’s School ‘Friends’ initiative ensures that we cultivate links with and perspectives from lead bodies in the management and care of our built and historic environment.’

‘For 2026, we’re delighted to welcome the RTPI, and hear first-hand thoughts – personal and professional – from Timothy David Crawshaw, former President of the RTPI and Planning and Development Consultant.  Tim has kindly – indeed enthusiastically – agreed to join us on the day, and offer his own take at the end of the main programme.’

Seán continued: ‘The 2026 association between the IHBC and RTPI will extend to the IHBC’s Yearbook, as RTPI President Jan Bessell has agreed to write its foreword.’

NB: IHBC’s 2026 Newcastle School has closed to in-person delegates, but the Virtual Day School is still open for booking
