Youth sentiment on construction careers holds firm, CIOB report shows

Young people continue to view construction careers positively, with sentiment largely unchanged from last year, according to a new report from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)

CIOB writes:

This research investigates the attitudes, perceptions, and views towards construction careers through a survey of 2,001 young people (aged 16-24) and 2,000 parents (aged 31+) across the UK.

Two thirds (68%) of young people surveyed hold a positive view of construction careers while more than three quarters (79%) of parents are supportive of their child pursuing a career in the sector. Just under half (42%) said they would recommend a career in construction to their child.

The report also analyses other contributing factors to young people and parents’ attitudes towards construction and what else can be done to improve the numbers embarking on careers in the sector.
