The Department for the environment, food and rural affairs (Defra) has issued a consultation on sustainable development indicators, with responses due by 15 October 2012.
Defra writes:
A new set of Sustainable Development Indicators are proposed for consultation, which are intended to provide an overview of the UK’s progress towards a more sustainable economy, society, and environment.
The indicators are intended to provide an overview of national progress on key issues that are important economically, socially and environmentally in the long term. They are intended to complement the National Wellbeing Measures published by the Office for National Statistics.
Sustainable Development Indicators have been widely used outside of Government by academics, non-Governmental Organisations and businesses. This consultation will give stakeholders the opportunity to comment on the choice and coverage of a new set.
