IHBC’s ‘Professional’ Parliamentary Signpost: Lords completes examination of Planning and Infrastructure Bill

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill had its third reading, ‘a chance for members to make sure the eventual law is effective, workable and without loopholes’, on Monday 10 November.

UK Parliament writes:

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill would change the law and streamline the legislation surrounding the construction of new homes and critical infrastructure. Some of the bill’s provisions include:

  • reforming the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP)
  • updating the electricity grid connection process
  • granting corporation powers for infrastructure delivery
  • setting up a new Nature Restoration Fund, that would enable developers to fund restoration more efficiently.

Third reading

Third reading is the chance for members to ‘tidy up’ a bill, making small changes to ensure it is effective.???

Two amendments (changes) were put forward ahead of third reading and were agreed to.

Members also discussed the progress of the bill at the conclusion of its stages through the House of Lords.?
