IHBC features ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Council welcomes full Government funding for Southport pier restoration

Sefton Council has welcomed the Government’s announcement confirming full funding for the restoration of Southport Pier — a historic and much-loved landmark that has stood proudly on the town’s coastline since 1860, reports My Sefton News.

My Sefton News writes:

The funding, expected to total around £20 million, will enable urgent repair and refurbishment works to begin on the Victorian structure, which has been closed since December 2022 due to safety concerns…

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council, said: ‘This is fantastic news for Southport and a huge step forward in restoring one of our town’s most iconic and cherished landmarks….’

The restoration of Southport Pier forms part of a wider regeneration vision for the town… with further updates to be shared in the coming weeks.
