The IHBC has welcomed the new Sustainable Traditional Buildings Alliance (STBA) report on ‘Retrofit Materials & Permeability – Understanding Moisture in Traditional Buildings.’
The STBA writes:
Produced by University College London (UCL) and jointly funded by Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, Cadw, and the Department for Communities Northern Ireland, the paper sets out key concepts for understanding how insulation materials interact with moisture in traditional construction.
It offers practical guidance on vapour permeability, defines key technical terms, and outlines risks associated with poor specification. The report is a significant contribution to best practice for the retrofit of the UK’s traditional building stock.
