Coventry Cathedral gets share of American Express $1m

Following the inclusion of the ruins of St Michael’s Coventry on the 2012 World Monument Fund (WMF) Watch List, a £2m fundraising campaign was launched late in 2011 to save them, and now American Express, longstanding supporter of the WMF Watch List, has offered Coventry a share of a $1m donation.

A proportion of Coventry’s grant will ensure that the urgent conservation of the nationally important medieval glass rescued from St Michael’s can begin this summer.

A further £250,000 still needs to be raised to undertake the urgent repairs to stabilise the ruins, prior to plans to showcase the conserved medieval glass and restore the medieval crypts.
