Following a Cadw Governance Review in 2023 recommending a review of the Cadw/RCAHMW relationship, and a 2024 government call ‘to look closely at… functions and responsibilities and identify synergies’, the new Working Group is now advancing its consultation led by Carole Souter, independent member of the Working Group.
Steffan Roberts, Chair of the Working Group and Deputy Director, Arts and Sport, writes:
As you may know, the Cadw Governance Review of December 2023 recommended a review of the relationship between Cadw and the RCAHMW.
In June 2024, the then Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Social Justice responded to this recommendation and indicated that the two organisations ‘need to look closely at their functions and responsibilities and identify synergies and different ways of delivering’.
The senior management teams of Cadw and the RCAHMW agreed to establish a Working Group to oversee this work, of which I am Chair. We are keen to hear the views of key external stakeholders as to how the two organisations might work better together. An independent member of the Working Group, Mrs Carole Souter, has been tasked with this element of the project and this letter is by way of introduction to her. Carole will shortly be in touch with you to invite your contribution to our considerations. I hope you will feel able to respond freely.
Our aim is to be in a position to put recommendations to Welsh Ministers in early 2025.
