CHN’s Global ‘Call To Action’ update

As COP29 kicks off in Baku, Climate Heritage Network (CHN) is sharing some of its news from the campaign.

CHN writes:

… Cultural voices from across the world are uniting. Together, we are calling on national governments’ climate negotiators assembling at COP, the UN Climate Conference, to make decisions that put cultural heritage, arts and creative sectors at the heart of climate action. Thank you for joining us –  please continue to show your support and share our campaign with our Social Media Toolkit.

….Cultural Workshop Request for COP29 Decision
Culture-based climate solutions have long been missing from global climate talks. COP30 next year in Belém Brazil can change this by adopting a Joint Work on Culture and Climate Action decision. But in order for Belém to be remembered as the place where culture-based climate solutions finally took center stage, the topic must first be addressed at COP29. For this reason, the Global Call campaign is seeking to have a short provision about culture included in the final decisions taken at COP29.

Specifically, we are asking COP29 to request that the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies hold one or more workshops to consider issues related to culture, heritage and the creatives sectors before their 62nd session in Bonn, Germany in 2025. Holding a culture workshop early in 2025 would allow for exchanging views on these topics, laying the foundation for the Conference of Parties to adopt a culture joint work decision in November 2025 at COP30 in Belém.

Tabling and adoption of Joint Work Decision at COP30 is the a key goal of the Global Call campaign. Securing a culture workshop request from COP29 is a key prerequisite to achieving that goal.
