IHBC North Branch CPD: RETROFIT FOR THE FUTURE, A Day School for Building Conservation Professionals, 19/09 Durham

‘Retrofit For The Future’ on 19 September next, is a new ‘Day School for Building Conservation Professionals’, including and optional Building Tour of Dunelm House, hosted by the IHBC’s North Branch, and led by Prof. John Edwards, Director of Edwards Hart Consultants; Chair of the IHBC Technical Panel.

… pressure increases on the historic built environment to meet the challenges of the climate crisis and energy conservation…

Roger Higgins, acting IHBC North Branch Chair, said: ‘The North Branch is pleased to announce a further CPD opportunity on September 19, in Durham.’

‘Following hot on the heels of our well attended events in Bishop Auckland, Sunderland and Newcastle Upon Tyne, the Durham event will focus on Sustainable Retrofit – an increasingly important topic as pressure increases on the historic built environment to meet the challenges of the climate crisis and energy conservation. We believe that Professor Edwards will deliver a cross-cutting day of CPD which will be applicable across a range of disciplines.’

The IHBC North Branch writes:

The UK is committed to net zero by 2050. Historic, listed and traditionally constructed buildings present amazing opportunities to reduce energy use and take advantage of their low embodied carbon. But these buildings are vulnerable to inappropriate retrofit measures.

In the worst cases retrofit can lead to the deterioration of the building’s structure and fabric, increasing heat loss through damp, mould and decay.

This invaluable and timely day school offers a unique insight into the issues and covers the most recent government and Historic England guidance, including the new editions of PAS 2030 and PAS 2035, which give updated guidance for traditional and protected buildings.

  • IHBC Toolbox on Retrofit
  • Sustainable maintenance and repair to improve performance
  • Applying standards such as BS7913, BS EN 16883, PAS 2035 and PAS2038
  • Roles and responsibilities – different perspectives

This first class CPD opportunity is ideally suited to Surveyors; Engineers; Town Planners; Architects; and Facilities Management professionals fields engaged in the Historic Environment.

Tickets (including mid-morning coffee and lunch): IHBC Members £40; Non-members £50; IHBC Students/Unwaged/Retired £0
