The IHBC’s Council, the Institute’s inclusive advisory body with exclusive training for members – including future trustees and officers – at its heart, held its seventh online meeting on 11 July, with over 150 IHBC members signed up, and included a review of the post-election political landscape by Lizzie Glithero-West of The Heritage Alliance (THA).
IHBC writes:
Council heard how the discussion at previous Council’s and the support of the IHBC AGM had given IHBC confidence in moving forward on the #IHBCpetitionforcharter and beginning preparation of the Memorandum, a preliminary request for the petition to be considered.
IHBC’s Education and Application Support Officer Angharad Hart described to Council the latest developments in supporting Affiliate member applications with the launch of a fast track affiliate Pilot, aimed exclusively at local authority staff. Angharad described how ‘we’re hoping that the fast track process will help to overcome some of the barriers that local authority staff may have in moving from Supporter to Affiliate membership, such as time constraints, uncertainty around the application process, and perhaps even a lack of confidence in demonstrating their awareness. ‘
The headline CPD feature of the meeting was a presentation by Lizzie Glithero-West, Chief Executive of The Heritage Alliance (THA), who provided an overview of the new political landscape; the election results profile, the personalities and posts now involved and their heritage experience or interests. Lizzie gave her insight into how the election result might impact on heritage and what could lie ahead in the next year. There are opportunities for heritage to be at the heart of many of the agendas the new government are setting out, but the swift change can also cause inadvertent damage when heritage is caught up in wider legislation.
The next Council meeting will be on 16th October – put it in your diary now.
