It is not known if the external walls of Poltimore House can be saved following a devastating fire, but its charitable trust has pledged to save what they can, reports Devon Live.

A heartbroken team of dedicated charity trust members and volunteers have vowed to continue its mission to save Poltimore House from ruin – despite the historic Devon mansion being ravaged by a fire after many years of painstaking restoration work. The former stately home of the Bampfylde family, near Exeter, is believed to have been the victim of a suspected arson attack in the early hours of April 9….
… Poltimore House was built between 1550 and 1590, and was initially home to the Bampfyldes – a family which has yielded a number of Sheriffs of Devon down the years. It is also believed to have been the location for the signing of the peace treaty that ended the Civil War in the Westcountry in 1646…
… Later this month, Poltimore Festival was set to make a return on May 25 and 26, after a break of a couple of years.
