CLG stresses historic environment priorities

In a presentation to England’s Nation Planning Forum (NPF), the principal cross-sectoral voice on planning issues in England, CLG highlighted the government’s commitment to conservation as second only to the ‘absolute commitment to economic growth’.

In the presentation to the NPF, on which IHBC is repreented by past-chair Dave Chetwyn, entitled ‘Overview of Coalition Government Planning Reforms’, Míde Beaumont and Nick Tennant identified the second priority for the planning reforms as being to ‘Continue to protect and enhance the natural and historic environment’.

At the same time they emphasise the need to ‘Restore the idea that development can be a force for good, rather than something to be resisted at all costs’.

They also note that the ‘Framework’ for the NPPF is three-fold:

– Streamline national policy:make it more accessible
– Promote sustainable growth
– Protect and enhance the natural and historic environment

The National Planning Forum (NPF) is the principal cross-sectoral voice on planning issues and aims to be recognised as a key agent for change in delivering a better planning service.
