IHBC features ‘Heritage from the doorstep’:  Poltimore House fire met with heartbreak and ‘deep sense of loss’

It is not known how much of Poltimore House can be saved following a devastating fire, though the charitable trust has pledged to save what they can of the building, reports DevonLive.

Poltimore House was built between 1550 and 1590, and was initially home to the Bampfyldes – a family which has yielded a number of Sheriffs of Devon down the years…

The house caught the attention of the nation, winning the South West round of BBC2’s Restoration programme in 2003… This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Friends of Poltimore House…
