Leading architectural historian and director of the Sir John Soane Museum from 1945 to 1984, Sir John Summerson (1904 – 1992) has been commemorated (19 March 2012) with an English Heritage blue plaque at 1 Eton Villas, Chalk Farm, NW3, which was his home for more than forty years.
Summerson’s defining and highly readable works, Georgian London and English Architecture – continue to be widely consulted and enjoyed today by practitioners and enthusiasts of architecture alike.
