Fire at Crooked House pub was started deliberately, police say

A fire which swept through an iconic West Midlands pub is being treated as arson, police have confirmed.

…‘at no point’ was it agreed to demolish the whole structure…

The Coventry Telegraph writes:

….Staffordshire Police said last night that they believe the blaze at the Crooked House pub in Dudley was started deliberately.

Officers have spoken to the new owners of the historic landmark…. They bought the pub from Marston’s a few weeks ago, shortly before the building went up in flames…

… Police said speculation on social media was ‘unhelpful’….

The pub was bulldozed on Monday… South Staffordshire Councilsaid it was done ‘without permission’.

The council said it was agreed that three elements of the first-floor front elevation would be removed to avoid the weak parts of the structure from falling. But… that ‘at no point’ was it agreed to demolish the whole structure.
