Europa Nostra Awards: winners announced


The 27 winners of the 2011 European UnionPrize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards were announced in April by theEuropean Commission and Europa Nostra, with the winning projects selected from nearly 140 submissions from 31 countries.

 

Congratulations to UK winners the Hackfall woodland garden in North Yorkshire (Category 1: Conservation), the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in West Sussex (Category 4: Education, Training and Awareness Raising) and Hampshire & Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology (Category 4: Education, Training and Awareness Raising). Six of the 27 winning projects will be named as ‘grand prix’ laureates at the Awards Ceremony in June and will each receive €10,000.

 

Europa Nostra’s president, Plácido Domingo, said: ‘Without the combined skills and efforts of many professionals and volunteers and without the involvement of young people,Europe’s heritage doesn’t have a future. These awards celebrate their love, passion, care and commitment for the preservation of the beauty and the soul of Europe.’
