HA Updates on DCMS staffing

Heritage Alliance has reported on the new staffing arrangements at DCMS.

HA reports as follows:

Welcome to Helen Williams, who has been appointed as Head of Heritage at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) following a Departmental restructure. Helen was previously Head of Museums and Libraries. The Heritage Alliance will be meeting Helen in June.

Dr Ingrid Samuel, who was formerly the most senior heritage specialist within the Department, has taken up the post of Historic Environment Director at the National Trust. Mick Eliott, who has been Director of Culture at DCMS since 2008, is to become CEO of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra from August.

The Department’s re-structure saw a reduction in the number of senior civil servants and the establishment of a new senior management team of specialist ‘Heads of’ posts, with Directors taking on a ‘more strategic, cross-cutting role’. DCMS says: ‘The organisation will be more flexible so we can adapt to meet changing priorities. Teams will be less static and people will be encouraged to apply their skills across the business. The aim is to become more like one, highly skilled team, where we share expertise.
