A pick of newly built or refurbished buildings from across Scotland have received a significant plaudit thanks to winning or being commended at the RICS Scotland Awards 2011, with conservation projects rating highly across a range of categories.
Prominent conservation highlights at the awards include the Hippodrome Cinema, Bo’ness, which both won the Community Benefit category and received a commendation in the Building Conservation category, and Belmont House, Shetland, which won the Building Conservation category.
The competition, organised by RICS Scotland, recognises the achievements of land, property and construction professionals in four categories – Sustainability, Building Conservation, Regeneration and Community Benefit.
The category winners of the RICS Scotland Awards 2011 are:
Sustainability
- Winner – John Hope Gateway Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh
- Highly commended – Kingdom House, Pittenweem
- Commended – Acharacle Primary School, Argyll,
- Commended – Buro Happold offices, Edinburgh
- Commended – Inverdee House, Aberdeen
Building Conservation
- Winner – Belmont House, Shetland
- Highly Commended – McManus Art Gallery, Dundee
- Highly Commended – Infirmary Street Baths, Edinburgh
- Commended – Hippodrome Cinema, Bo’ness
- Commended – University of Edinburgh Business School, Edinburgh
- Commended – Dysart Tolbooth, Fife
Regeneration
- Winner – Springside, Edinburgh
- Commended – Briggait, Glasgow
- Commended – Elbe Street, Edinburgh
Community Benefit
- Winner – Hippodrome Cinema, Bo’ness
- Highly Commended – Ravenscraig Sports Centre
- Highly Commended – Aberdeen Sports Facility
- Commended – Holy Rood High School, Edinburgh
- Commended – Bonhill Primary School, Vale of Leven
Winners of the RICS Scotland Awards will be automatically entered into the RICS global award finals. Here, the Scottish winners will face tough competition in the shape of entries from countries from all over the world.
There will also be an overall Project of the Year award winner for Scotland which will be announced on 17 May 2011 at an event in Edinburgh sponsored by Pinsent Masons.
