Towards a ‘climate conscious Wales’ with ‘prosperity for all’

The Welsh Government has set out its commitments to respond to the impacts from climate change with a 5 year plan to adapt to the impacts the country may face, including committing ministers to strengthening planning policy to prevent housebuilders from building properties on medium and high-risk floodplains.

The Welsh Government writes:

Prosperity for All: A Climate Conscious Wales is our climate change adaptation plan for Wales.

We are setting out our commitments to respond to the impacts from climate change we already see and those we expect to see in the future. The plan complements the steps we are taking to decarbonise the economy of Wales.

Prosperity for All: A Climate Conscious Wales shows how we are taking action, over the next five years, to address the areas of greatest risk. We will achieve this by:

  • protecting people, communities, buildings and infrastructure from flooding,
  • protecting water supplies from drought and low river flows,
  • tackling land management practices that exacerbate climate risks,
  • managing risks to ecosystems and agricultural businesses.
