Help EFAP give architecture a voice

The European Forum for Architectural Policies (EFAP) is warning of a real risk that architecture will be downgraded to a mere ‘design issue’ as progress is made in preparation of the new EU Urban Agenda.

EFAP says that it ’strongly believes that architecture should be a key ingredient in the recipe of the entire cake, giving taste and flavour to urban and regional development policies. It is our long-term ambition to foster the development of an overall European vision of the cultural environmental quality.’

‘Architecture as a cultural expression is at risk. Two years ago the Council of the European Union made an explicit appeal to the European Member States and the Commission to consider architecture as an essential tool to enhance sustainable development, including economic growth, social coherence and cultural diversity. The good intentions now need to be followed up in concrete policy making…..’

EFAP aims to promote architectural quality by bridging the interests of the profession, government, citizens and culture. EFAP does not reduce architecture to an economic good or to a simple construction matter, but stresses the importance of creating favourable conditions for architecture at large. EFAP does so by creating awareness of the societal role of architecture.
