Civic Voice, the national charity for the civic movement in England this week polled the public on which policy is most important for inclusion in the new National Planning Policy Framework, currently under production by the Government
The poll, carried on the home page of Civic Voice’s website, posed the question: “The Government is combining planning policy into a single document. Which existing policy do you most want to save?”, offering a choice from: 1/ Town centre first for retail; 2/ Brownfield first for housing; 3/ Green Belt; 4/ Presumption in favour of conserving designated heritage assets; 5/ Promote local distinctiveness; 6/ Reduce need to travel; 7/ Plan positively for high quality design; 8/ Promote higher density and mixed use; and 9/ Other.
Conservation topped the poll at more than 46% support, with ‘local distinctiveness’ coming a strong second at more than 18%.
