Listed Union Chapel threat refused

An inspector has rejected an appeal in relation to a substantial 134-residential unit scheme on Canonbury Road in Islington, London, which would have involved the demolition of two properties and their replacement with a residential-led mixed-use scheme of 134 new homes, some affordable, in two seven-storey buildings.

The scheme, by developers Notting Hill Home Ownership, was refused by Islington Council.

The proposals were rejected because of the harm to the appearance of the adjacent Canonbury Conservation Area and the setting of the landmark grade II* listed Union Chapel.
