Sheffield Victorian spa declared Asset of Community Value

Local councillors have declared Birley Spa Bath House in Sheffield to be an Asset of Community Value, much to the delight of campaigners fighting to keep it in community use. The Grade II-listed Victorian spa had been empty (and growing increasingly derelict) for almost a decade when the council announced plans to put it up for auction earlier this year….

The auction was then delayed following a campaign backlash, and in the interim the council approved the request to make it an ACV.

Now if the council put it up for auction again, the community must be given six months notice to raise money and bid for the spa.
