IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘Recent posts demonstrate the continued demand from employers advertising on the IHBC Jobs etc service for a wide range of conservation and heritage-related skills in new staff.’
‘Integrated conservation skills that map to the IHBC’s core interdisciplinary skills and accreditation loom especially large across our jobs adverts from public, private and voluntary sector employers.’
‘You can easily see these needs headlined in the built heritage and conservation posts at Telford & Wrekin, Epping, Daventry and – under more generic titles but still fulfilling statutory roles linked to conservation legislation – at Monmouthshire and Mole Valley.’
‘Those same skills needs and priorities also extend to dedicated heritage casework activities, such as in national amenity bodies like the SPAB, which currently seeks a head of casework.’
‘They also span heritage typologies and forms, with an ecclesiastical take at Norwich, and a balancing of built heritage and landscape priorities required in National Parks – as both Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor seek IHBC-related interdisciplinary skills sets.’
‘At the same time more technical and specific skills are often also sought by employers via the IHBC’s Jobs etc. service.’
‘Recently these have included graphics, in the private sector, at CgMs, but also at national charities, notably with the CCT’s search for the projects-focused skills in the new projects officer for their joint partnership, funded by the HLF. Here heritage and project management skills are needed, as well as an holistic ecological awareness. Both CgMs and CCT posts are good examples of where interdisciplinary skills of accredited IHBC members might be especially critical.’
The CARS in Dunoon also seeks a project officer that, again, given the conservation area regeneration scheme (CARS) focus, needs someone that can take a holistic view of heritage management. Simultaneously too, that individual must also be able to focus on delivering specific, agreed project outcomes across wide-ranging partnerships.’
‘Clearly all these employers value both the reach of our ‘Jobs etc.’ network and the transparency it offers to their corporate processes.’
‘So if you are seeking a post with heritage-related skills, or just want to keep up to speed on what is out the and what people are being paid these days, be sure to sign up to our free Jobs etc alerts’.
