Over the next month the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) will begin its search for heritage champions to chair three of its local committees, recruiting in the North East, North West and Yorkshire & Humber, and with the closing date for applications Monday 1 November 2010.
Each of the committees is made up of leading figures from across the local heritage, cultural and voluntary sector.
The Chair will guide the regional committee in taking decisions on awards from £50,000 to £1million, supported by the regional HLF team. Their committee will also provide the HLF UK Board of Trustees with insight and a regional perspective on larger grants and national programmes.
Committee Chairs are chosen for their wide-ranging experience and local knowledge reflecting the range of projects funded by HLF. In the past they have come from a variety of backgrounds – although some have had experience as heritage professionals, others have built careers in tourism, education and regeneration, as well as in the community and voluntary sectors across the region.
Carole Souter, Chief Executive of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for people who are passionate about heritage to play a leading part in our local decision-making. HLF supported projects make a huge difference to local communities, offering chances for people to get actively involved in preserving, caring for and learning about their heritage. The HLF committee chair role is extraordinarily rewarding, offering the chance to work alongside enthusiastic professionals and volunteers in securing a strong future for our heritage and making a difference to peopleÕs quality of life.”
HLF distributes the heritage share of funds raised by the National Lottery, supporting an incredible range of projects supporting learning, conservation and participation in heritage. These projects reflect the vibrancy of the many different communities that have shaped our heritage and identity. From museums, parks and historic places to archaeology, natural environment and cultural traditions, HLF invests in every part of our heritage.
