Following the Annual General Meeting of SSLG on the 2nd September 2010, it is my duty as Chief Executive Officer to regretfully anounce that the Board of Directors have decided to dissolve SSLG as a charitable company limited by guarantee. The Board has issued a statement, which is given below.
Directors’ Statement (2 September 2010):
Following detailed discussions with Historic Scotland on the future levels of funding available for the Scottish Stone Liaison Group from Scottish Government, the Board of Directors have unanimously agreed to wind up SSLG as a private charitable company, limited by guarantee.
Historic Scotland has agreed that SSLG will continue as a industry advisory group to Scottish Ministers and that the work of the organisation will be carried forward by Historic Scotland, as a key area of responsibility, facilitated by the transfer of employment of the SSLG CEO to their Conservation Group.
On-going pressure on public finances, with an economic climate that made securing sufficient private funding unlikely have coincided with an opportunity to build capacity within Historic Scotland to take forward skills and materials issues, thereby enabling the work of SSLG to go forward without the on-going resource implications of running a small charitable company.
The Board would like to thank all those that have supported SSLG over the years and urge them to continue their association through the proposed advisory group. Exact details of the transfer of staff and projects have yet to be agreed but the Board expects that the winding-up process will be complete by the end of March 2011.
… The Directors and staff of SSLG will be having meetings with Historic Scotland over the coming period to agree the next steps towards the winding up of SSLG and how areas of our work may be taken on by Historic Scotland. These discussions will include the development of terms of reference for the new advisory SSLG. During this process we will endeavour to keep you informed as to progress.
