IHBC publishes Corporate Plan 2010-15

The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) has today published its Corporate Plan 2010-15, which is being proposed for adoption at the next IHBC AGM, on 11 June 2010, to take place during the institute’s Annual School in London, the sector’s primary educational event of the year.

Eddie Booth, President of the IHBC and chair of the forthcoming AGM, said: “Our places are the most valuable resource a nation has, after its people.  In times of global turmoil, such as those we see now, the places where we live and work are even more important to us.  It is essential that we value and manage them properly, so that everyone can benefit from them and prosper.  The IHBC must play a central role in this process and our new Corporate Plan will help us make sure we do just that.”

Sheila Stones, IHBC Vice-Chair and organiser of the Annual School, proposing the motion to adopt the Corporate Plan, said:”‘This is a crucial period for the IHBC, as the country faces huge economic challenges.  The Corporate Plan will ensure that the IHBC, our members, and the many other people that help care for our historic places, will make the best possible contribution to the future economic, social and cultural well-being of the nation.”

Seconding the motion, Charles Strang, Chair of the IHBC’s Communications and Outreach Committee which oversaw the early progress of the plan, said: “This Corporate Plan builds on what has gone before, while also identifying a number of important areas for the IHBC’s future development. If the AGM agrees, the next stage will be for IHBC’s Council to agree an Action Programme mapping out the next 5 years, with the initial year planned in considerable detail, complete with budgets and specific responsibilities.”

Seán O’Reilly, IHBC Director, said: “We’ve put a huge amount of time into developing what is, on the face of it, a very simple document. Yet it reflects the results of extensive and open consultations that ranged across our diverse inter-disciplinary membership and benefited from contributions by wider stakeholders.

The new Corporate Plan will guide us on how we move forward under the direction of our elected Council, and help us to monitor our progress.  At the same time our members will make sure that the Plan does not restrict any new ideas or opportunities.  The Corporate Plan 2010-15 is the essential framework for future progress, but it is also our platform for innovation in a rapidly changing world.”
