{"id":9713,"date":"2015-03-06T17:36:19","date_gmt":"2015-03-06T17:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=9713"},"modified":"2015-03-06T17:36:19","modified_gmt":"2015-03-06T17:36:19","slug":"love-your-local-23-march-celebrates-acv-pubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=9713","title":{"rendered":"Love your local \u2013 23 March celebrates ACV pubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Department for <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Communities and Local Government <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">(DCLG) has announced that 23 March will be a day to celebrate all the public houses that have been listed as Assets of Community Value (ACV) and a call for communities to consider using the powers for their own local pub.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DCLG writes:<br \/>\n<\/span>Ministers have called on people across the country to \u2018list their local\u2019 so pubs which play a crucial role at the heart of our communities can enjoy even greater protection and remain a social hub for future generations to come.<\/p>\n<p>A national celebration day will be held on 23 March to raise a glass to the success of hundreds of pubs already listed as assets of community value by local people.\u00a0 Community Pubs Minister Kris Hopkins has written to the landlords of all listed locals asking them to take part in this day of celebration. He is now urging other people across the country to consider listing their local to give it this additional protection.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the passion demonstrated for pubs, ministers are in the process of changing the law to give communities a say in the planning process when changes are proposed to the use of their listed locals.\u00a0 The department is currently producing a \u2018community asset certificate\u2019 which will be made available to every listed local to hang behind the bar, giving landlords the chance to celebrate the fact their pub is prized so highly by those who matter the most, the patrons.<\/p>\n<p>Kris Hopkins said: \u2018A lot of hard work has been put in by communities up and down the land to protect their beloved pubs from sell-off and I believe many more could be afforded this protection, which is why we are calling on people to consider whether they might want to list their local.\u00a0 The Great British pub is a national treasure which is why we are determined to protect it. I am delighted this government\u2019s action is providing even greater protection for local pubs and giving communities more of a say in their preservation and look forward to toasting this success on community pubs day.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Communities Minister Stephen Williams said: \u2018Community rights are a local revolution \u2013 equipping local people with the tools they need to have a real say in how their communities are run.
