{"id":940,"date":"2009-12-21T11:41:04","date_gmt":"2009-12-21T11:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=940"},"modified":"2010-03-24T11:41:52","modified_gmt":"2010-03-24T11:41:52","slug":"seaton-delaval-saved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=940","title":{"rendered":"Seaton Delaval saved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Grade I listed Seaton Delaval Hall in  Northumberland has been saved for the nation, following a fundraising  campaign, supported by some of the leading lights of British  architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Rogers, Norman Foster, Will Alsop and Terry  Farrell all supported the National Trust\u2019s attempts to buy the 18th  century, John Vanbrugh-designed house and its 162ha grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The  baroque hall, most of its contents and its gardens have been accepted by  the government in lieu of inheritance tax and have been gifted to the  National Trust, following the death of the house\u2019s owners.<\/p>\n<p>A  further \u00a34.2 million has been raised from donations, and a series of  grants, to buy the grounds and fund restoration work to the house.<\/p>\n<p>Architecture  minister Margaret Hodge said: \u201cSeaton Delaval Hall is a masterpiece of  18th century architecture. The hall will now be available for everyone  to enjoy and to learn from for many generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fiona  Reynolds, director general of the National Trust, said: \u201cIt has been an  incredible journey and we have been thrilled by the goodwill and support  we\u2019ve received.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trust plans to open Seaton Delaval to the  public in the spring.
