{"id":9087,"date":"2014-12-05T16:35:33","date_gmt":"2014-12-05T16:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=9087"},"modified":"2014-12-05T16:35:33","modified_gmt":"2014-12-05T16:35:33","slug":"unesco-28-new-creative-cities-network-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=9087","title":{"rendered":"UNESCO: 28 new \u2018Creative Cities Network\u2019 members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Two UK cities have joined another 26 worldwide to form part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network; York is now UK City of Media Arts and Dundee is UK City of Design<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UNESCO writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nUNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, designated 28 cities from 19 countries, as new members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The network aims to foster international cooperation between cities committed to investing in creativity as a driver for sustainable urban development, social inclusion and enhanced influence of cultural in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The following cities are new members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bilbao (Spain) \u2013 Design<\/li>\n<li>Busan (Republic of Korea) \u2013 Film<\/li>\n<li>Curitiba (Brazil) \u2013 Design<\/li>\n<li>Dakar (Senegal) \u2013 Media Arts<\/li>\n<li>Dundee (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) \u2013 Design<\/li>\n<li>Dunedin (New Zealand) \u2013 Literature<\/li>\n<li>Florianopolis (Brazil) \u2013 Gastronomy<\/li>\n<li>Galway (Ireland) &#8211; Film<\/li>\n<li>Granada (Spain) \u2013 Literature<\/li>\n<li>Gwangju (Republic of Korea) \u2013 Media Arts<\/li>\n<li>Hamamatsu (Japan) \u2013 Music<\/li>\n<li>Hanover (Germany) \u2013 Music<\/li>\n<li>Heidelberg (Germany) \u2013 Literature<\/li>\n<li>Helsinki (Finland) \u2013 Design<\/li>\n<li>Jacmel (Haiti) \u2013 Crafts &amp; Folk Arts<\/li>\n<li>Jingdezhen (China) \u2013 Crafts &amp; Folk Arts<\/li>\n<li>Linz (Austria) \u2013 Media Arts<\/li>\n<li>Mannheim (Germany) \u2013 Music<\/li>\n<li>Nassau (Bahamas) \u2013 Crafts &amp; Folk Arts<\/li>\n<li>Pekalongan (Indonesia) \u2013 Crafts &amp; Folk Arts<\/li>\n<li>Prague (Czech Republic) \u2013 Literature<\/li>\n<li>Shunde (China) \u2013 Gastronomy<\/li>\n<li>Sofia (Bulgaria) \u2013 Film<\/li>\n<li>Suzhou (China) \u2013 Crafts &amp; Folk Arts<\/li>\n<li>Tel Aviv-Yafo (Israel) \u2013 Media Arts<\/li>\n<li>Tsuruoka (Japan) \u2013 Gastronomy<\/li>\n<li>Turin (Italy) \u2013 Design<\/li>\n<li>York (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) \u2013 Media Arts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2018The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a tremendous tool for cooperation, it reflects our commitment to support an amazing creative and innovative potential to broaden the avenues of sustainable development,\u2019 said UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova.<\/p>\n<p>By joining the Network, cities commit to collaborate and develop partnerships with a view to promoting creativity and cultural industries, to share best practices, to strengthen participation in cultural life, and to integrate culture in economic and social development plans.<\/p>\n<p>The Network covers seven thematic areas: Craft and Folk Arts, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts and Music.
