IHBC CCD Venue: The Old Joint Stock Birmingham<\/p><\/div>\n

The second IHBC Course Connection Day, for student representatives from built and historic environment conservation courses in the UK was held on Tuesday 4 November in Birmingham, with nearly 25 representatives hearing about the support and guidance available from the IHBC and being equipped to feed back that learning to their fellow students.<\/span><\/p>\n

IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2019This kind of day, which offers free support to students to help support them in their work and research, represents a unique form of investment by a professional body in its sector.\u00a0 Not only do we support prospective future members and their work, as well as the UK\u2019s strained but globally recognised infrastructure for conservation education, but we also offer delegates tangible learning opportunities.\u00a0 As such we are investing in future members of the institute as well as current one, but also in the quality of learning across the entire heritage sector.\u00a0 That approach captures the kind of wide-ranging charitable focus that drives our organization and our volunteers\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018And everyone who attended will be able to take their learning back to the others students on their course.\u00a0 This means that we will maximize the benefits from the day for all participating courses across the UK, while also making sure that the event itself is small enough to allow delegates to get to know each other just a little bit better.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fiona Newton, IHBC\u2019s Projects Officer, said: \u2018The content of the day ranged widely, from IHBC resources such as our open-access \u2018WebStarter\u2019, which helps you understand the institute\u2019s vast array of web-based resources, to more detailed information on the IHBC\u2019s new Associate category of accredited membership. \u00a0Mainly we wanted to show how anyone with an interest in the built and historic environment \u2013 from specialist conservation professionals to researchers, students and even owners or those with more personal interests \u2013 can look to the IHBC\u2019s resources for guidance, support and learning\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018One of our key messages for students and specialists was that wherever you are in your career, you will benefit from the IHBC\u2019s support for evaluating CPD. This is one of the best tools to help anyone reflect on their future personal development and to find the right balance of skills that will work for them\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Our CPD support is invaluable for anyone developing and enhancing conservation and related skills, not least as it offers a rare chance to step back from things and consider what else you really need to know, and how you are going to learn.\u2019<\/p>\n

Over the course of the day many people generously also gave their time to be interviewed on camera, helping create a picture of the range of conservation courses available across the UK!<\/p>\n
