{"id":8970,"date":"2014-11-19T16:56:17","date_gmt":"2014-11-19T16:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=8970"},"modified":"2014-11-19T16:56:17","modified_gmt":"2014-11-19T16:56:17","slug":"high-street-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=8970","title":{"rendered":"High Street winners announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The winners of the \u2018Great British High Street\u2019 competition have been announced this week, with villages, towns and cities across the UK being recognised for their vitality,\u00a0 viability and unique approaches to being a great place to live, work and visit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DCLG writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nThe national Great British High Street competition, launched by the Future High Street Forum, celebrates the achievements of local people in making their high streets great places to live, work and shop.<\/p>\n<p>The national Great British High Street competition, launched by the Future High Street Forum, celebrates the achievements of local people in making their high streets great places to live, work and shop.<\/p>\n<p>The winners were selected across a range of categories for their ability to innovate, collaborate and adapt to changing consumer habits.\u00a0 Judges visited 21 shortlisted areas and the winners are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City \u2013 The Norwich Lanes<\/li>\n<li>Coastal \u2013 Colwyn Bay<\/li>\n<li>Market \u2013 Belper (chosen also as overall high street champion)<\/li>\n<li>Local centre \u2013 Barnoldswick<\/li>\n<li>Village \u2013 Broxburn<\/li>\n<li>Town centre \u2013 Wantage<\/li>\n<li>London \u2013 Kingston<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prime Minister David Cameron said: Britain\u2019s high streets have a long and proud history &#8211; and a special place at the heart of many communities. This competition celebrates the excellent work that is reinvigorating many of our high streets and highlights ideas that other places can use.\u00a0 High streets are an important part of our long-term economic plan to help communities reach their full potential, create new opportunities and secure a brighter future for people across Britain. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who entered the competition.<\/p>\n<p>High Streets Minister Penny Mordaunt said: \u2018We were really impressed with how people have thrown down the gauntlet for the Great British High Street and shown what\u2019s possible on the nation\u2019s shopping streets. Communities, traders and businesses are absolutely fizzing with bright ideas and initiatives to make our high streets great places to work, shop and live.
