{"id":8638,"date":"2014-10-01T17:17:27","date_gmt":"2014-10-01T16:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=8638"},"modified":"2014-10-01T17:23:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-01T16:23:00","slug":"scotlands-childrens-summit-for-community-activism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=8638","title":{"rendered":"Scotland&#8217;s &#8216;Children&#8217;s Summit&#8217; for community activism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mike Russell, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, has announced a Children\u2019s Summit which will aim to bring together young people to discuss the future of their communities<\/span>.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Scottish Government writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nCommunities up and down the country have a role to play in truly making Scotland \u2018the best place to grow up\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Education Scotland\u2019s two-day Scottish Learning Festival at the SECC in Glasgow, Education Secretary Michael Russell announced that a Children and Young People\u2019s Summit is to be held, to build on the \u2018reaffirmed desire of millions of Scots to participate in democracy\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Russell said: \u2018\u2026we have to move forward involving the whole of Scotland in decision making, including decisions that will improve life for children and young people in our own communities and beyond. To help that process on, today I\u2019m announcing a Children\u2019s Summit for Scotland. Bringing together children, young people, those who support them and wider civic society, this gathering will, I hope, be the beginning of a process that will see a Children and Young People\u2019s Conversation take place around the country \u2013 harnessing the renewed interest in positive, energising, consented improvement that we\u2019ve seen over the last two years.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Scottish Government will convene the summit but the participants will determine the most effective way to involve interested citizens at grassroots level in improving services for children and young people.
